What AV club shelp:
Da Pavement’s third album, Wowee Zoweereleased in 1995, the band had swapped its short brush for mainstream exposure – 1994’s Heavy rain, heavy rain– for a slowly burning, bubbling-under-the-surface cult status. It also let Malkmus loosen up, to the point where he turned one off Wowee Zowee‘s most cryptic songs, “Rattled By The Rush”, to a free-riffing continuum of near-rhymes like “Candelabra” / “Barbara” / “Larva”, which competes with most of the MCs of that era – at least and by them. What Beavis and Butt-Head said:
Back of head: Oh no, that’s another one of those. They have to try harder.
Beavis: It’s like… it’s like they are not even trying. Come on! I want you to start over and this time try! Come on let’s go! One, two, three four, then came. Come on, rock!
Back of head: This is just awful.
Beavis: If you have to be horrible, then at least you have to have it. Like Jesus Lizard. I mean, they suck, but they kick ass.
Back of head: I think these guys are just lazy.
Beavis: They are too lazy to rock and they are too lazy to clean the tub.
Back of head: These guys are so lazy that they’re probably taking a dump in the tub.
