A former teaching assistant at a private school in Monroe County has been jailed for having inappropriate sexual contact with a student.

Marissa Lee Beadle, a former teaching assistant at State Line Christian School on Lewis Ave. in Temperance, was sentenced to serve 30 days in Monroe County Jail with the option of serving a 90-day period in a bootcamp program designed to prevent similar behavior. Beadle will then serve five years probation with the treatment of sex offenders and was ordered to have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family.

“As a parent, part of a mother’s job is to protect your child.… But what Marissa did to my child, I can not correct,” the victim’s mother said at the sentencing hearing.

Monroe County 38th Circuit Judge Daniel S. White presided over the case.

“I clearly think this is a difficult situation,” White said. “The kicker for me is that Ms. Beadle was in a position of authority.”

According to Monroe County prosecutors, Beadle was a 20-year-old teaching assistant at the school when she had inappropriate contact with a then-13-year-old student.

According to the family, the assaults happened several times at school and in the family home over a period of months. Beadle relied on the fact that no two cases of child abuse, third degree and one charge of indicting a child for immoral purposes, were disputed.

She said in a statement read by her lawyer in court that she was saddened by the situation and never intended to harm anyone.

“I am very, very sorry.… I beg for mercy, your honor,” according to the statement.
