Bachelorette star Brooke Blurton has shared her experiences with abortion.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Blurton revealed she had an abortion a “very little time ago” and called on women to “come together” amid the US Supreme Court’s anti-abortion ruling.
Blurton’s post was in response to one from Abbie Chatfield, who also revealed she had had an abortion.
Blurton shared Chatfield’s Instagram post on her stories, praising her for being “honest and vulnerable” for sharing her own experiences.
Chatfield shared a photo with her fans on Saturday, of her at six weeks pregnant before she had an abortion at age 23.
There are ‘’no guarantees the right to abortion in Australia will be protected forever,” Chatfield warned.
In response, putting the pair’s long-running feud to bed, Blurton wrote: “As an icon and change maker, I’ve always admired Abbie for the topics she speaks on. Her honesty, particularly around abortion was one that I thought she showed so much strength in and thought, wow what a f**king human.
“… disputes aside… I always saw past that and admire the vulnerability Abbie has.
“Women can come together. We need to. After going through my own experience of an abortion only [a] very little time ago.
“I am so lucky (if that’s the word to use) to have choice. Why do men have choice over our bodies, why do they get right over them?”
The US Supreme Court has ended almost 50 years of constitutional protection for women, overturning the landmark 1973 Roe v Wade ruling that recognised the right to abortion.
