Take some time with your family this long weekend to celebrate Canada Day and appreciate the nature and culture in our city.

1 — Celebrate Canada Day with Free Events

Canada Day celebrations at the River Landing Amphitheater on Friday include performances throughout the day, Indigenous education, birthday cake, a citizenship ceremony, games and activities. In conjunction with the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, a free concert will be held at Victoria Park at 6:30 PM. The concert features Tenille Arts and DJ Charly Hustle. At 10:30 PM, fireworks will be set off from Broadway Bridge. Learn more at canadadaysaskatoon.ca.

2 — Visit Wanuskewin with the whole family

Wanuskewin Heritage Park hosts daily public programs this weekend. Before Canada Day on Friday, enjoy a native plant walk. For the rest of the weekend, the daily program includes a ‘step back in time’ walk, bison walks and a 1:00 p.m. dance presentation. Everyone is welcome to participate in these programs, or to tour on their own. Read more at wanuskewin.com.

3 — Stop in the library for family stories

Saskatoon Public Library hosts family stories every Sunday in library branches across the city. The whole family can enjoy stories, songs and finger games for children aged two to eight. Storytime events are held Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at several public library locations. Learn more at saskatoonlibrary.ca.

4 — Take the family to the Berry Barn

The Berry Barn is open all season with attractions for all ages. Outdoor attractions are open every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Take advantage of the seasonal ice cream parlor while enjoying go-karts and a train ride, or enjoy the petting zoo and pony rides. 5 — Play online library games and activities

The Saskatoon Public Library has online games and activities for a variety of age groups, including children and adults. Games include photography puzzles, escape room puzzles, bingo, trivia and guessing games, quizzes and a mystery to solve. Learn more at saskatoonlibrary.ca.
