Cheeky cockatoo throws potted plants from balcony

A cheeky cockatoo has been filmed throwing potted plants off a balcony and missing pedestrians on a Melbourne CBD street.

The footage, which has been viewed more than 1.5 million times on social media platforms, shows a sulphur-crested cockatoo launching potted plants onto Flinders Lane as stunned pedestrians watch below.

“Oh look, here comes another one,” says an onlooker in the video, which was first shared Nov. 28 on the BrownCardigan Instagram account.

CafĂ© manager Lucie Amulet told Seven News on Wednesday that she and other workers in the area noticed the cockatoos’ disruptive behavior in the spring.

“They’ll take socks and things,” said Amulet.

Falk Wicker of Healesville Sanctuary said that the Sulphur-crested Cockatoos are very intelligent.

“I think it happens from time to time that you have a very intelligent animal that behaves in a way that we don’t fully understand,” he said.
