Covid inquiry is a pointless waste of money | Comment

Inquiry: noun, a request for information, often on a matter of public interest; examination into facts or principles. Synonyms: exploration, inquest, inquisition, investigation, probe, research, study. Alternative view: a vast and pointless waste of taxpayers’ money.

Please, no more public inquiries. They never seem to achieve anything. They are always too late, over budget and under-utilised. They are a tactic created by the government to obfuscate and delay any debate about its mistakes and shortcomings, used to pacify the victims and their families in the hope they will stop complaining.

The Covid inquiry is no exception. The news that more than 60 barristers have already been employed, despite there being no start date, is depressing, especially when there are only 15,000 in England and Wales
