The Essex County OPP is continuing its investigation into a serious collision that occurred Wednesday night on Highway 3 near the town of Essex.

Police, fire and paramedics responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 3 and County Road 8 shortly after 8 p.m.

According to OPP, the collision took place between a passenger car and a commercial vehicle.
The passenger car had three occupants, all three of whom were injured and then transported to a hospital for treatment.
Police described one of the occupant’s injuries as life-threatening, while the remaining two were non-critically injured.
The lone driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured.
The intersection was closed to traffic and technical investigators from the Essex County OPP were on site throughout Wednesday evening.
The section of the roadway was reopened around 2:50 a.m. Thursday.
Highway 3 near Essex is a dual carriageway with eastbound and westbound traffic separated by a grass verge.
The intersection has traffic lights, street lighting and exit lanes. The indicated speed limit is 80 km/h.
