HBO Max removes 36 titles, including 20 originals, from streaming

HBO Max has already pulled almost 36 titles from its service this week, Variety has confirmed.

An HBO Max spokesperson attributed the decision to the platform’s pending merger with Discovery+, which is also owned by Warner Bros. Discovery.

“As we work to bring our content catalogs together under one platform, we will be making changes to the content offerings available on both HBO Max and discovery+,” the statement from HBO Max reads. “That includes removing some content from both platforms.”

Removing the titles from streaming would make Warner Bros. Discovery also help cut costs by removing less-watched programs to save money on leftovers. An exact date or time when the titles will be removed has not been disclosed.

While HBO Max has removed several titles in recent weeks, including several Warner Bros. movies and HBO TV shows such as “Camping,” “Vinyl,” “Mrs. Fletcher’ and ‘Run’, the latest announcement represents the largest number of titles to be pulled from the service. In addition, 20 original HBO Max shows will be taken off the platform, including teen drama “Generation,” animated anthology series “Infinity Train,” and holiday-themed reality dating show “12 Dates of Christmas.” It is currently unclear whether they will be made available on DVD or rental services.

Without an unspecified “select group of ‘Sesame Street’ specials,” the full list of titles to be removed is below.
