Hugh Jackman will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Ryan Reynolds in “Deadpool 3” set to hit theaters September 6, 2024.
Reynolds, who played the “merc with a mouth” on several 20th Century Fox projects, announced via social media that he and Jackman are teaming up for Deadpool’s first turn as a Disney property.
“Hello everyone, we are very sad that we missed D23, but we have been working hard on the next ‘Deadpool’ movie for a long time,” Reynolds said in the video, sitting on his couch. “I really had to search my soul here. His first appearance in the MCU must of course feel special. We have to stay true to the character, find new depth and motivation, which means that every Deadpool has to stand out and stand out. It’s an incredible challenge that forced me to reach deep within.”
“Hey, Hugh, do you want to play Wolverine again?” asks Reynolds as Jackman runs into the back of the shot.
“Yeah, definitely Ryan,” Jackman replies.
Disney had previously said Deadpool would be integrated into the MCU, but it was unclear when the character would get a standalone movie and where it would fit into the larger expanse of the Multiverse.
Deadpool is one of several comic book properties that Disney acquired when it bought 20th Century Fox in 2019. The X-Men and the Fantastic Four will also appear in movies over the next few years.
Reynolds Deadpool movies are a rarity in Hollywood. Both “Deadpool” and “Deadpool 2” were rated R and subsequently generated more than $780 million each worldwide. That’s probably why Disney agreed to rate “Deadpool 3” as R, even though the rest of the MCU filmography is rated PG-13 or lower.
