IAN GILLAN of DEEP PURPLE mourns the death of his wife

Source Gillanthe wife of DARK PURPLE singer Ian Gillan, died on November 19, reportedly after a long illness. She turned 67 years old.

Ian and Source married in 1984 and have a daughter, Grace Gillan.

Ian previously said it is one of his favorite songs of his career “Don’t Stop Me”which appeared on his 1991 solo album “Tool Box”. “It was about my wife and her heart surgery, you know?” he explained. “She was in the hospital at the time and ‘we’re breaking into your open heart’. It’s a pure love song, and I couldn’t have done that DARK PURPLE record at that time. I don’t think I could have imposed my personal passion so strongly in one DARK PURPLE song.”

Ian joined DARK PURPLE in 1969 and made his first recorded appearance with the band “Concerto for group and orchestra”. PURPLEthe most famous folk song “Smoke on the Water” demonstrates Ian‘s fantastic vocal prowess, his electrifying rock presence and cements his place in rock ‘n’ roll history.

Gillan ran his own band in the late 1970s before rejoining DARK PURPLE in front of “Perfect Aliens” in 1984. In 1989 he toured as GARTH ROCKETT AND THE MOONSHINERS before releasing even more solo albums, including “Naked Thunder” (1990),“Tool Box” (1991),“Dreamcatcher” (1998) and “Gillan’s Inn” (2006).

Gillan is also an author, playwright, screenwriter, songwriter and a philosopher with a great sense of humor and a bit of the devil in his eye. Pavarotti said he is a genius, and David Gilmour from PINK FLOYD stated that as long as Gillan sings, rock and roll is not dead. His impact on pop culture remains strong to this day “Smoke on the Water” play a central role in an episode of “The Sopranos”.
