Kelly Clarkson Reveals How Her Ugly Divorce From Brandon Blackstock Affected Her Music Career: ‘I’ve Got To Get My C**p Together’

She’s a queen of the breakup song, thanks to classic hits like Since U Been Gone and Miss Independent.

But Kelly Clarkson has admitted that she is having a hard time choosing her next big tune as the public will no doubt associate it with her very public and acrimonious divorce from ex Brandon Blackstock.

In a new interview on The Chart Show With Brooke Reese, which was released Wednesday, the American Idol champion said she “must [her] c**p together” and let go after she puts her plans to get through the breakup in the marriage on hold.

The 40-year-old singer and chat show host filed for divorce from her 43-year-old now-ex-husband in 2020, and the split was finalized last year.

Clarkson began by illustrating the difficulty that had befallen her towards the end of her marriage.

“Everyone knows the huge divorce I went through and it’s been two years and not easy with kids,” she said.

The Stronger singer then noted that she was currently figuring out what to make available to the public.

“I just navigate what I feel comfortable letting go of. So, it’s just a hard thing to navigate,” she explained.

Clarkson also said that working on music after her divorce had been a particularly arduous process.

The artist made it a point to state that “I’ve never had such a difficult project.”

She then noted that the fact that her divorce was being “brought out into the open” coupled with her motherhood created “a very different dynamic” in her life.

The television personality did indicate that while her fans might enjoy new music in the future, she should get her personal life in order before anything premieres.

‘It’s coming. I just need to get my c**p together. I just need to figure out what I’m going to release,” she said.

Clarkson began seeing Blackstock in 2012, and they tied the knot the following year.

The former couple welcomed daughter River Rose and son Remington Alexander, aged eight and six, over the course of her marriage.

The artist’s former husband was also her manager during their time together.

Clarkson released three albums during her time at Blackstock, titled Wrapped In Red, Piece By Piece and Meaning Of Life.

However, it was revealed that the singer filed for divorce in June 2020.

The couple then began a legal battle over their children, and the singer was granted primary custody in November.

The singer was declared legally divorced in July last year and her split was formalized the following month.
