PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A 39-year-old man was hit and killed by a vehicle in northeast Philadelphia on Sunday night, police said. The accident happened just before 10 p.m. at the intersection of Grant Avenue and Blue Grass Road
Police say a 20-year-old man driving a 2011 Chrysler 200 was driving west on the 2700 block of Grant Avenue in the left lane when he hit the 39-year-old man while he was on the road. According to police, the man tried to brake but hit the 39-year-old, who threw him into the left lane of the eastern side of the lane.

According to police, a passer-by put a tourniquet on the 39-year-old man’s leg when he stopped responding to the road. Doctors pronounced the man dead at the scene, authorities say.

The 20-year-old man driving the Chrysler was not injured.

Police say no charges have been filed at this time as the incident is under investigation.
