Marquinhos expected to move to Arsenal in the “next days”, and Arsenal reach an “agreement” with Hickey and Dybala “open” for the transfer

Dom n gloom

Arsenal and Newcastle dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Everton manager Frank Lampard has now insisted the England international is in his long-term plans.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference before the match against Brentford, he said: “He’s a fantastic striker, with the pedigree of a striker there’s not much around him. It was a pity for me, I think, that I didn’t make him fit.”

“He’s had a few moments but we know strikers – especially outside of any position – need rounds of matches, fitness and confidence.

“We’ve never been able to get Dominic to be fair with him. But yeah, he’s a huge player, they’re not very popular. He signed us, three years on his contract, and I want to move forward with this club and players like Dominic will help with that.”

“I know he’s not playing at the moment because he’s fit, but now he’s fit so I hope he’s in the last few games as a starter and then our player.

“He is a player that clubs want because of his level.

“There are not many strikers there, they cost a lot of money. I am not worried about it at all.”
