The westbound lanes of Highway 401 in Loyalist Township remain closed today after a multi-vehicle crash Sunday evening, July 21, 2024, sent multiple people to the hospital.

A total of seven people were injured following a serious crash involving two vehicles and a motorcycle, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said in a statement.

Just before 9:30 pm on Sunday, July 21, 2024, officers from the Lennox and Addington County Division of the OPP responded to the scene.

“Investigations have determined the collision involved two passenger vehicles and one motorcycle. Five occupants were in one vehicle. Three of the occupants were transported to hospital, one with serious and life-threatening injuries,” the OPP detailed.

“The sole occupant of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. The motorcyclist sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.”

OPP technical collision investigators are assisting with the investigation, according to the release. The highway remains closed at County Road 4, with emergency detours in place.

In response to inquiries from Kingston residents about when westbound lanes of Highway 401 are expected to reopen in the area, OPP said 3 p.m. seems like a good estimate at this time, but as the investigation is ongoing, these timelines are subject to change.
