Next weather: what to expect on the weekend of July 4th

BOSTON – With the big holiday weekend approaching, what could be more important than the weather forecast? Nothing can ruin the best plans like an old-fashioned wet and dreary summer weekend in New England.

2021 was the signboard for that.

Memorial Day Weekend 2021: 4 consecutive days of rain and cold, more than 3 inches of water fell in Boston. The maximum temperature on Memorial Day was 62 degrees, 9 below average.

July 4 Weekend 2021: 4 consecutive days of rain (July 1 through 4) with a total of nearly 5 inches of water in Boston, the high temperature on July 4 was 68.13 degrees below average.

What a difference a year can make! After a pretty awesome Memorial Day weekend a few weeks ago (minus some rain on Saturday), things are also looking promising for MOST of the upcoming holiday weekend. As usual, we can’t release the “all clear” sign for the entire route. Let’s dig.

SATURDAY:

Later in the afternoon, the second set of showers and thunderstorms should develop again. The greatest risk of severe weather would be around and south of Boston, specifically just south of the Mass Pike.

There may be some interruptions in activity with mostly to partly cloudy skies. Any sunshine will fuel the threat of strong afternoon and evening storms. The biggest threat with any of these potentially strong to severe thunderstorms comes from heavy rain, gusts of wind and possibly hail. The whole day will have a tropical feel with dew points in the 70s and official peaks into the 80s.

We won’t have to wait long to get back to the beaches! Keep scrolling to see Sunday and Monday.

SUNDAY:

Short summary: Looks like a beauty! The only possible fly in the ointment would be if the cold front is held up along the south coast. If that were the case, some clouds or showers could linger south of Boston early on.

Rain Chances: 10% hold a small chance at the beginning along the south coast, but the latest info shows improvement!

Temperatures: High in the 80s inland, a chance we will reach the low 90s in some areas. Sea breezes are likely to develop on the beaches in the afternoon, cooling them down into the 1970s.

You will also notice that the humidity will be a lot lower.

Wind: West northwest 4-8 mph, light, coastal in the afternoon.

At the Beach: High Tide 3:15pm, lots of sunshine, light breezes, just a tad cool with a sea breeze developing (again, there may be morning clouds along the South Shore and South Coast beaches including Cape Cod and the Islands)

Overall rating (1-10): 8 north, 6 south

MONDAY:

Short summary: looks good overall. There is some concern about the build-up of afternoon clouds and a few showers or storms, but the greatest threat appears to be in central and northern New England. Humidity is also likely to increase later in the day

Monday temperatures

CBS Boston
