Nick Mangold Relives Jets Memories Prior to Ring of Honor

Nick Mangold is one of the greatest Jets in franchise history.

He was absolutely dominant on the offensive line, making seven Pro Bowls, almost never missing games, helping the Jets play back-to-back AFC Championship games and spending his entire 11-year career with Gang Green. On Sunday, he will compete in the Jets Ring of Honor during halftime of the Jets-Bengals match at MetLife Stadium. There aren’t many Jets that deserve it more. He is also eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2023 and it’s hard to argue that he won’t one day deserve a spot in Canton as well.

Mangold joined Brian Costello and me for a great interview on a new episode of the “Gang’s All Here” podcast. He covered everything from how special the Ring of Honor is, to Hall of Fame conversations with his favorite Jets memories, to embracing New York to today’s Jets…and much more. Coz and I also discussed his column on sticking to Joe Flacco as he leads the Jets to a win on Sunday. Then we review and make our predictions for the great Jets-Bengals game.

‘Gang’s All Here’ Podcast with Jake Brown & Brian Costello

  • MANGOLD RING OF HONOR: Well deserved for him. Coz loved covering him over the years. Knew how to turn personality on and off with the camera. Very funny guy. He is undoubtedly one of the best Jets ever. That offensive line was huge and durable, playing together for several years, which is rare these days.
  • FLACCO TIME: Should the Jets give Flacco another game, even if Zach Wilson is ready? Robert Saleh has left the door open for Wilson to practice for another full week to master 100% if Flacco plays well. Jets fans in Coz’s listings weren’t too nice about his thoughts.
  • BENGAL @ JETS EXAMPLE: 0-2 Bengals are desperate for a win. Joe Burrow and the offensive line were not good the first two games. For the Jets, it’s a revenge game from CJ Uzomah and Carl Lawson. Does Flacco have more magic in it? For the sake of Mangold and the positive mojo, I’ll take the Jets 27-24. Coz is rolling with the Bengals.

Nick Mangold interview:
Former Jets Center, 2022 Jets Ring of Honor

  • RING OF HONOR: Amazing to see his name there. Will be cool for his kids and grandkids to see it forever at MetLife Stadium. Speech is around 1:45.
  • HALL OF FAME: Think you’ll get into the Pro Football Hall of Fame?
  • JETS REMINDERS: Coz realized how good Mangold was when he saw that one match that Jets’ offensive line played without him. Special bond with Mark Sanchez and still hangs with him. They were a tight-knit unit in those teams. Shame about the switch from 2015 to 2016.
  • CURRENT JETS: Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas are building the team the right way, starting with the offensive line. Loves the direction they are going.
  • EMBRACING THE: Husband from Ohio but family fell in love with NYC and NJ. Long Island was a culture shock that started there. Jets fans are real and demand excellence, and rightly so. Became a Yankees fan because of Nick Swisher. Became a Rangers fan because Ryan Fitzpatrick had a connection to get them to Rangers games.

LIVE WALK IS ALL HERE PODCAST SUNDAY: Come to House of ‘Que in American Dream next to MetLife Stadium and follow the Jets-Bengals to see me host the show live with special guest, Jet’s amazing Tony Richardson. Jets great Wayne Chrebet will be there too. We’ll start recording the podcast around 5 p.m. ET.
