Silverado Socrates seeks your vote to become Kelowna’s next mayor – Kelowna News

Socrates: one-on-one

Silverado Socrates, a longtime Okanagan resident, has a different vision for moving the city of Kelowna forward over the next four years.

Socrates is one of five candidates for mayor of the city and believes that with the help of some friends we can make the city a better place through peace.

“It’s amazing what you can do when you work together,” she told Castanet during a one-on-one interview.

“You have to have a vision. Back in the 80s, when Kelowna had a riot and made the news all over the world… I think we can make the world news in a better way.”

Socrates, who lost her home and her business, knows firsthand what it’s like to be homeless.

She says the city needs to look beyond the fact that people are now homeless and take a step back to the root cause.

“We’re trying to save the boat instead of repairing the hole, and I’m one of those examples.

“It seems ridiculous that I became less at home when I helped a lot of people who were homeless themselves.”

After going through ten different houses in a year, she says she finally found stability, a job and a home.

As for affordable housing, she says the city doesn’t need to build anymore, but instead use what we have now.
