CHICAGO – Giancarlo Stanton shook for his third straight game, Aaron Judge deepened for the second time in two nights and the New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox 10-4 Friday night.
After calling twice and driving in six runs in Thursday’s 15-7 win, Stanton shocked Friday in the first inning against Vince Velasquez (2-3). This propelled the Yankees to their 19th win in 22 games.
The judge made the score 6-0 when he fired a single kick in the fourth game to finish 12th in the league lead.
Josh Donaldson also presented himself in his second straight game and led in three runs, and Joey Gallo deepened as well.
Gerrit Cole (3-0) lasted 6 rounds and a third, allowing three runs and six strokes. The right hand hit nine goals and ran into one, helping New York improve to a major league best 24-8.
The White Sox lost for the third time in four matches. The AL Central reigning champions won 41-21 in that period by Cleveland and New York.
Gavin Sheets took the lead, Louis Robert scored two goals and scored two. Velazquez had seven runs and eight hits in five.
After hitting season highs with 15 layups and 15 hits, the relentless Yankees snatched a first-round 2-0 lead by Stanton that had just cleared the center court wall. The home race was his fourth in three games and tenth this season.
Things got worse in the bottom half when, with bases loaded, catcher Jose Trevino attempted to pick Tim Anderson for third after the Sheets out.
Donaldson seemed to ride and push the dive runner as he put up the mark. Anderson responded with a push, and the two had words, emptying both teams’ benches and theirs. The governors quickly restored order, and Cole wrote off A.J. Bullock to end the threat.
New York scored three more goals in the second half, capping Donaldson’s double at the RBI.
The Yankees called up right-back Clark Schmidt of Triple-A Scranton/Wilks-Barre before the game.
Yankees: C Ben Rortvedt (right tilted) will likely undergo an MRI after a knee problem temporarily halted rehab, said manager Aaron Boone. Acquired from Minnesota along with Josh Donaldson and Isaiah Keener-Valiva in March as part of the deal that sent Gary Sanchez and Geo Urchela to the twins, Roertvedt has played in just two minor league games this season.
White Sox: Chicago has put forward Lucas Giolito on its list of people infected with Covid-19. Giolito began experiencing mild symptoms on Wednesday, and the White Sox are hoping to get him to give his sermon during his series in Kansas City next week. …Andrew Vaughn is revitalized after a rehab mission with Triple-A Charlotte after being sidelined with bruises on his right hand.
LHP Jordan Montgomery (0-1, 2.90 ERA) is looking to maintain its strong game streak in New York, while LHP Dallas Keuchel (2-3, 6.86) looks to win its second straight.
