Suspect arrested after Vancouver home ‘searched’, car keys stolen – BC

Vancouver police have arrested and are recommending criminal charges after an alleged burglary and attempted car theft on Thursday night.

According to Sgt. Steve Addison, homeowners returned to their home in the Kitsilano neighborhood around 11:30 p.m. to find that someone had broken into, “looted it and stole their car keys.”

When they went to their parking lot to check their vehicle, they found the suspect.

“It appears he had tried to steal the car but brought it to a halt because he was unfamiliar with driving a stock transmission,” Addison wrote in an email on Friday.

“The suspect ran away, but our officers flooded the area and arrested the suspect before he could get too far.”

Vancouver police said the suspect, a man in his thirties, is a “known property offender.” He was released on Friday on the condition that he appear in court at a later date.

There were a number of break-ins in the area throughout the day and night, Addison added, and police are investigating whether they are related.
