The Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 School Board will appoint a new member to fill a vacancy until the 2023 election.
The appointed member succeeds Mary Yeboah, who resigns in the middle of her first term on the board. Yeboah is moving out of the state and will officially resign his seat at the end of the month.
In last year’s school board election, Yeboah received the most votes in a jam-packed field with 10 candidates. Yeboah, who has a doctorate in education administration, pointed out gaps in academic achievement in the district.
Voters cannot decide who will take her seat on the seven-member board because the vacancy opened up with less than 868 days remaining of her term, a timeline set by the Illinois School Code.
The board plans to appoint a new member at a meeting on August 24th.
The district asks anyone applying for the position to complete an online application and submit a letter of interest describing their relevant credentials.
Application material must be sent to Board Assistant Dianna Hutchison at Dianna.Hutchison@cusd200.org no later than 16.00 on Thursday 7 July. The Board of Directors will select candidates for interview on specified dates.
Yeboah’s successor will complete his term until the seat is up for election in April 2023.
Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, and a registered voter who has resided in the district for at least one year.
