Tony Awards 2022: How to Watch, Time, Channel and more

It’s Broadway’s biggest event of the year, celebrating the best theater on the Great White Way.

“West Side Story” star and Oscar winner Ariana DeBose hosts the show and spoke to CNN earlier this week about what to expect.

“I think I’m going to do what everyone thinks I want to do, which is sing dance and try to perform and make it an extravaganza,” she said laughing. “And maybe I also want to surprise some people who know it’s live from coast to coast … and that’s what makes it exciting. There’s nothing like live theater.”

A self-described fan of all things theater, DeBose said she turned to the previous Tony Awards shows to prepare for her role on Sunday.

“I’ve seen countless, countless Tony Award shows, and I’m no James Corden, I’m certainly not Neil Patrick Harris or Hugh Jackman for that matter. And I’m no Whoopi Goldberg, but I’ve been inspired by them all, said DeBose. “I’m excited about it because it’s a playground for me. I’ve never done this so I’m just going to experiment and the good thing is I love these people and I do not mind falling on. my face and look a bit like an idiot to people I love. So here we go! “
