Union Street in Glasgow closed as police respond to reports of serious assault

A major street in Glasgow has been closed by police after reports of aggravated assault.

Emergency services flocked to Union Street shortly after 11:30 a.m. Thursday due to an incident on the busy thoroughfare.

Footage of the scene shows a police cordon blocking access to the road while local public transport is being diverted out of the area.

An eyewitness told them how to stay in their workplace while officers conducted an initial investigation.

Scotland police said it was likely the area would remain off-limits “for a while”.

A police spokesman added: “At around 11:30 am on Thursday 30 June, the police were called with a report that a man had been attacked in Union Street, Glasgow.

“Agents and emergency services are on the scene and the investigation continues.”
