Wind warning in effect for Toronto

A wind warning is in effect for Toronto with strong gusts expected on Saturday.

Environment Canada says strong winds are forecast this morning through the afternoon.

“Westerly winds with gusts of up to 90 km/h are expected this morning through the afternoon in the wake of a strong cold front,” the National Weather Bureau said.

The wind is expected to decrease from west to east in the evening.

Yesterday, Environment Canada issued a special weather forecast for most of Southern Ontario due to strong winds.

The weather bureau warns that wind gusts at outdoor events can damage soft shelters, tents and awnings. Loose objects can also be thrown by the wind and power failures can occur.

Today a maximum of 9 C is expected with a temperature drop to 1 C this afternoon and a minimum of minus 5 C.

Today is also expected to be cloudy with a few showers ending this morning and a 60 percent chance of thunder during the day.
